A very good book for middle schoolers about writing stories. Actually it's a good book for any beginning writer wanting to understand the craft and turn it into a skill.
Short but useful and fair, I recommend it, especially to starting fantasy writers. Gail Carson Levine encourages the reader like a good teacher, with dashes of humour added in to keep the ball rolling.
Words have power, and actions keep the reader coming back to your story. It is important to both show and tell.
Writing is an art improved through time, and criticism should help you.
Also remember this bit of truth:
'There is no such thing as a perfect book or a perfect story.' - Page 85
Aspiring writers: don't quit, keep finding magic in your ideas for stories, and learn how you can convey them into words on paper.
Final Score: 4/5
