Book Review - 'Animal Farm' by George Orwell

"All animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others"

Now I know why my mother used to call my brother and me "Beasts of England" sometimes, when we were little.

'Animal Farm' is a darkly funny and clever political satire, told to make the reader think and feel uncomfortable doing it; which must have been Mr. Orwell's intention when it came to all his writings. It's similar to 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' in that it presents what happens when someone rewrites the past. It effects the present state of affairs, and people are apt to forget what was what before, because they, like animals, are susceptible to false recollections overtime.

It misses one star because, even for a novella of 95 pages, I had difficulty getting into it at times, as it is very wordy and descriptive. Its message is also not very subtle. But 'Animal Farm: A Fairy Story' is still worth reading and discussing even to this day.

'A Fairy Story' eh? It is most definitely something different to read to your children at bedtime!

Final Score: 4/5
