Non-Fiction Book Review - 'The Writer's Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers' by Christopher Vogler

For someone like me who loves to deconstruct myths, hero's stories, and fairy tales, this is a treasure to read. To date, 'The Writer's Journey' is my most essential writing guide.

I feel nostalgic whenever I read it, because it tells of different stories that I grew up absorbing - and it picks them apart, right down to their magical skeletons, and explains their storytelling functions.

Simple, basic yet very informative. Christopher Vogler leaves nothing out when describing different conventions and archetypes in stories, and why people love to read about them. What excites us, and why? Why do we keep coming back to certain types of films and books? What are their roots?

'The Writer's Journey' also includes criticisms of the story structures and character arcs and roles in 'The Wizard of Oz', 'Titanic', 'The Lion King', 'Pulp Fiction', 'The Full Monty' and 'Star Wars'.

Final Score: 5/5
