Graphic Novel Review - 'Cucumber Quest: The Ripple Kingdom (Cucumber Quest #2)' by Gigi D.G.

2022 EDIT: From my 'Cucumber Quest: The Doughnut Kingdom' review:

I'm clearing out some of my books, and I'm afraid I've decided to give this series away, especially since I've read in the author's blog posts that they won't be finishing 'Cucumber Quest', at least not for a while. No plans seem to have been made yet. No more paperback volumes are being published either. Oh well, 'Cucumber Quest' remains a funny, cute, subversive and heartwarming cartoony webcomic series, but I will no longer be continuing it.

Original Review:

Not as strong and funny as the first book, but still darn funny, containing breakout moments.

New characters include: the additional travelling companion, the positive and forgetful Princess Nautilus of the Ripple Kingdom, who is sure to grow into an exceptional member of the outrageously fun cast (she is a POC and wears glasses!); Chardonnay, the Dream Oracle's long-suffering but darling fairy servant (who is really only useful at scrubbing toilets); Commander Caboodle, Champion of Justice! a superhero/Flash Gordon parody who comes from a flying saucer out of nowhere, a loud deus ex machina; Crabbro the bro-crab; and of course there is Splashmaster, the giant dumb one-eyed octopus, and the first of the Nightmare Knight's seven minions.

There's sea, sand, caves, and limbo! Gosh so much limbo at the beach, it's brilliant! Also back are Peridot (who, like the other bad guys, I don't think is as evil as she says, and is growing more and more adorable), Saturday, Lord Cabbage, Princess Parfait, the guard trio, and the lesson that, even when on an epic quest and rescue mission, it is never a bad time to call mum!

So memorable and hilarious, I'm looking forward to the other instalments in the 'Cucumber Quest' series!

Final Score: 4/5
