Book Review - 'The Kindest Red: A Story of Hijab and Friendship' by Ibtihaj Muhammad (Writer), S.K. Ali (Writer), Hatem Aly (Illustrator)

'The Kindest Red' - the sequel to 'The Proudest Blue'.

Personally, it touched me and affected me more than the previous book, because of its more overt message of the importance of kindness. The core of its story is learning how to create a kinder world.

A happy world.

A healthy world.

A fair world.

(And a sweet world, a sunny world, a funny world, an ice cream world, and a unicorn world, as suggested by children.)

A beautiful world.

A strong world.

'A kind world.
A world where there's always a friend nearby.

[...]

A world of friends helping one another.'

Such a world is possible, if we all just try to make it come true.

Try to 'grow a kind-powered world.'

'The Kindest Red' is about more than a red dress. There is so much love, heart, caring, sharing, and empathy to it.

There is so much diversity in this sweet, empowering, captivating, beautiful picture book. So many families. And friends. It is abundant with substance, and themes to discuss.

And of course the illustrations are the best and brightest, and the most adorable, charming, darling, and perfect.

Like 'The Proudest Blue', it comes with the highest of high recommendations from me and everyone else who has read it, and who cares about, well, anything. I shall definitely be reading the third and final sister book instalment, 'The Boldest White', soon.

These books are so vitally important. They need to exist in the world, especially right now. I cannot overstate this enough.

'I want a kind world.
A world where kindness passes from one to another.
'

From Ibtihaj Muhammad in the Author's Note:

[...] an everyday act of kindness can be big or small. Faith teaches us that kindness is an important part of life. It serves as a beautiful reminder of how our own behaviour can affect those around us.
[...] This book is a celebration of family and the joy of helping others. May you always know that joy.'

Final Score: 5/5
