Book Review - 'Vampirina Ballerina Hosts a Sleepover' by Anne Marie Pace (Writer), LeUyen Pham (Illustrator)

2022 EDIT: From my 'Vampirina Ballerina' review:

I will keep the first 'Vampirina Ballerina' book - I still love it to bits - but not its sequels. The first is the most charming and beautiful, and it most centers on ballet.

Original Review:

Another cute and beautifully illustrated 'Vampirina' book. It teaches children what to do and what to expect when hosting a sleepover with friends; including newer and shier friends, as is the case with Vampirina and her ballet girl-friends, who are sleeping over at her redecorated (unnecessary!) castle. It's not just her human friends she ends up having fun with - her lovely vampire family also join in their activities and games. And so do a mummy, a Frankenstein's monster, a cat, bats, ghosts, and a dragon!

Vital lessons to be learned from this picture book for children: Different tastes can mix, and be enjoyed by others. Different preferences can be thoughtfully accommodated for. Anything taken thoughtlessly or by mistake can be returned, no problem. True friends stick together when in need. And nothing is more important than friends and family, and nothing feels better than the gratification that comes from spending time with both.

Brilliant. A colourful cake of a book, filled and covered in all sorts of sweet ingredients. Love the facial expressions on the characters on each page, too - they convey so much.

Final Score: 5/5
