Graphic Novel Review - 'Legends & Lattes: The Graphic Novel' by Travis Baldree, Samuel Sattin (Adapter), Shanti Rittgers (Artist), Sarah Webb (Artist)

A lovely and decent graphic novel adaptation of Travis Baldree's 'Legends & Lattes', which has become the staple and standard for cosy fantasy fiction lit.

The art is very nice, and a little manga-esque in a lot of the characters' expressions. I swear Viv and Tandri are made to be more adorable than in the novel; even goofy. I'm not complaining - they're great characters (as are Cal the hob, Thimble the rattkin, Pendry the bard, Laney the elderly neighbour, Gallina the dwarf with sharp weapons, the mob boss Madrigal, weirdly enough, and Amity the giant dire-cat), and their relationship is a slow burn, sweet, rich, rightly-served latte of a romance. It is very well developed.

Is the graphic novel more humorous in tone, as well?

'Legends & Lattes' remains a heartfelt, heartwarming and mouthwatering fantasy tale, filled with coffees and baked goods. And entrepreneurial affairs and hardships.

Cafés are wonderful, magical places, aren't they? Like libraries.

I think I may need to reread the original novel, however, as I now realise how little I remember it (it's been four years, blimey) (Is it less comedic?). Then I may judge how many liberties this adaptation took, if any. Anything important and noteworthy.

In the meantime, here is my review of the OG 'Legends & Lattes' book; and of the prequel, 'Bookshops & Bonedust', for good measure.

Here is a list of similar graphic novels I love:

'Books, Iced Coffee & a Side of Dragons'

'The Baker and the Bard'

'The Restaurant at the Edge of the World'

'Doughnuts and Doom'

Final Score: 3.5/5
